Hike Machu Picchu

Updated: Apr 10, 2021

One of the Top 10 Wonders of the World and we see why!!

Thanks for joining us! My husband and I have a bucket list and keeping a blog for a year is on there. So 2018 is the year for blogging for us! Make sure to put your e-mail down below so you get updates on whatever project we are up to. Our first adventure begins with Machu Picchu! This was worth the time and the money! It is on the top wonders of the world for a reason. It is absolutely gorgeous.

How we booked Machu Picchu:

We booked our hike through Inca Trail Reservations. You can not do the 4 day / 3 night hike alone. You can only do the day hike without a tour guide which means you'd have to get the train into Aguas Calientes and hike up on your own. I can't recommend the 4 day hike enough though. It is a wonderful experience that is worth every penny.

Getting to and hiking Machu Picchu:

We bought our plane tickets out of LAX and then flew to Lima. We had a layover in Lima overnight so we got to see Lima for a bit. It was a blast. The next morning we caught our flight to Cusco where we stayed at the Super Tramp Hostel and I can't recommend it enough. It was a great location within walking distance from the Inca Trail Reservation office for our early morning start the next day.

We started the hike and here are a few photos throughout our adventure. You will have trail porters that pack the tent, food and will even carry your own gear if you pay extra. They are extremely hard working locals and every morning they tear down camp behind you, run ahead of you so it is set up when you get there. You don't even have to set up your own tent! They take very good care of you and it doesn't even seem like you are "camping."

The views you see along the way make it incredible and it is only something you can see if you were to do the 4 day hike. Along the way you see more ruins and get to walk through local villages. It is such an eye opening, beautiful experience and then when you cross over the hill and see Machu Picchu it is all worth it.

You won't regret it. Just looking back at these photos makes me miss it already. Thanks for reading and don't forget to follow our journey on Youtube and Instagram. Life is short, get out and travel, smile and laugh. Safe travels!
